Jack Takes The Prize! - Tuesday, 29 April 2008 8:21 EDT

So JACK thinks he can dance!!  And he can!  The finals night was full of entertainment.  We saw the finalists - Jack, Kate, Rhys and Demi at their best.  And we had repeat performances from eliminated dancers revisiting earlier routines.  Throughout the show they gradually eliminated the final 4 until it was down to Jack and Rhys.  Eventually Jack was announced the winner of Australia's first SYTYCD!  What a great decision!  Rhys was a very gracious, upbeat runner-up (as seen on Rove!).  No doubt SYTYCD will be a wonderful springboard for these dancers to progress their professional careers.  Meanwhile, outside TVLand we return to plain old Sunday night viewing.  Roll on SYTYCD 2009!

Did you have fun playing the game?  Thanks for helping us iron out the bumps.  Let us know if you have any feedback and suggestions!  We look forward to seeing you at TVvoting for other reality TV shows coming up - specifically Australian Idol!

Final 6 Dance For a Shot at Semi-Finals! - Sunday, 13 April 2008 17:28 EDT

The final 6 were paired up again - Jack & Demi, Graeme & Vanessa, Kate & Rhys.  The show-stopper had to be Kate & Rhys doing a modern Rhumba.  Stunning.  Then the 3 girls did a piece together - that somehow didn't come together.  And the guys did a dance together that was very creative and fun.  2 more go home in elimination - hard to believe we'll be down to 4 dancers!  Two weeks left until finals.  Who will it be?...

Action Packed Night for 8 Dancers! - Sunday, 06 April 2008 19:46 EDT
Boy have the dancers been busy!  They re-grouped into new couples then learnt 2 new dances each.  The most impressive couple of the evening were Jack & Kate who made Jason "ache"!!  They did a  Singing in the Rain 'house style' dance that was amazing, and a really fun Spiderman dance.  I thought Rhiannon and Graeme were also great, but the judges canned them for their Burlesque routine.  Henry and Vanessa tried valiantly to master their routines, but just didn't compare to the others.  Rhys and Demi were an odd couple, but they did pretty well with their routines.  The judges thought Demi's lack of formal training is starting to affect her standard.  Which guy and girl will go tonight??  Make your picks now!

Anthony & Gemma Go! - Monday, 31 March 2008 20:28 EDT

SYTYCD went quiet over Easter, no doubt allowing the dancers to rest and recover from weeks of dancefloor duress.  On Easter Sunday Network 10 aired some "best of" segments and had heart-to-hearts with the judges on the couch.  There was nothing new revealed here and we waited one more week for some SYTYCD moves!  Then this Sunday they switched partners and introduced 1 minute solo dances for every performer.  An action packed night!!  My favourite solo on the night was from Jack, who did an entertaining tongue-in-cheek Mission Impossible style dance.  I tried to pick a stand out solo from the girls on Sunday, but found nothing to write about!  Monday was elimination night and the bottom four were: Anthony, Graeme, Gemma and Rhiannon.  In the end Anthony and Gemma were sent home.  Both went graciously with heartfelt thanks to the judges and other contestants.  Anthony also encouraged the rest of us to get off the couch. Not likely if SYTYCD keeps going like this!

Two more down...ten remain! - Monday, 17 March 2008 7:04 EDT
It is starting to get serious now!  Two more contestants were eliminated, leaving the FINAL 10!  The couples who 'danced for their lives' were Camilla & Anthony, Graeme & Kate, JD & Rhiannon.  Then the judges chose Camilla and JD to go.  Camilla was a BIG surprise to me.  But given the options - I guess it is pretty tough to choose anyone more or less talented.  I think JD did well to stay as long as he did.  Down to 10 final contenders!  Who will win??

Double Dances! - Sunday, 16 March 2008 7:49 EDT
Each couple danced twice tonight.  One dance was the usual format - contemporary, jazz, hip hop pop etc.    The second was a  'surprise' dance.  For the 'surprise' piece the dancers got to select a song and create their own 'chorey' (as Jason says!)  I hate to admit it, but I thought the best dance was by Henry and Vanessa, doing their own entertaining moves!   How clever and funny!  Henry and Vanessa both have been able to break out of their genres successfully. I didn't think the others were particularly memorable tonight.  Maybe it was the chorey (thanks Jase).  Maybe it was the long two hour show.  But I wasn't really moved by much else tonight!  Ecept for Kate who danced incredibly well with an injured neck.  She and Graeme are real contenders I think.  But who will go tomorrow....?

Laura and Sermsah sent home... - Tuesday, 11 March 2008 4:57 EDT
Last night we saw Laura and Sermsah chosen to go.  No big surprise, since their weaknesses were starting to show compared to the other dancers.  Laura was very polite and grateful for her opportunity on the show.  And Sermsah demonstrated that it REALLY IS live TV when he blurted out the F word!  Someone in TV-land tried to bleep it out but missed!  So it was actually quite funny.  But not the most professional way to leave the show.  Does this mean that Camilla and Anthony will be paired up?  Not a bad result - they could be a good partnership.  Look forward to more dancing next week!  See you then!

Boy can they dance! (& thank goodness for the haircut!) - Sunday, 09 March 2008 7:42 EDT

Tonight 's dancing was really extraordinary on SYTYCD.  No crazy fusion dances.  No weird costumes.  No missed steps.  Just really really remarkable dancing.  My absoulte favourite tonight was Vanessa and Henry doing rhumba.  Never thought I'd be saying this - but they were hot!  Henry deserves to get through based on his haircut and new look.  Thank goodness he finally came to his senses.   I loved the contemporary dance by Graeme & Kate.  I think I finally 'get' contemporary dancing now - it was so beautiful.   My next favourite dance was Rhys and Gemma doing Hip Hop (with an afro twist), boy can they move!  Very sassy dancing!  On the hair front, what exactly is happening with Natalie's hair every night?  We could do a TVvoting game gambling on her hair style each show.  Anybody's guess as to who will be voted off this week. ...

Two More Eliminated... - Monday, 03 March 2008 4:54 EST
Tonight we said good-bye to 2 more dancers.  The bottom 3 couples were Vanessa & Henry, Stephanie & Marco and Laura & Anthony.  After dancing for their lives Stephanie and Marco were sent home.  Stephanie stood out for her very gracious farewell speech!  Very professional.  And Marco also took the news well, stating "It's reality TV, what can you say?" with a cheeky grin!  At this stage of the competition the dancers are all very skilled, so each week will be harder to pick (although I still think JD and Vanessa got sympathy votes or lucky misses).  Look forward to more dancing next week!

Ride on the Hot Tamale Train! - Sunday, 02 March 2008 5:47 EST
Sunday night the judges were joined by none other than Mary (the judge from the US version of this show).  Known for her vivacious personality and loud volume - she certainly brought some passion and straight-talking to the commentary tonight - including the infamous "hot tamale" compliment!  As much as I love this show - I wish they would stop using fusions.  Militia Krump? Bollywood HipHop?  Soul Swing? The dancers are confused, the viewers are confused and even the judges are confused!  That said - the dancers brought some amazing performances tonight.  My favourite was Rhys & Jemma doing a Pase Doble (& Rhys found his masculinity for this!).  Loved Graeme & Kate doing Bollywood - fun!  And I really enjoyed JD & Rhiannon doing the Tango, even if they did forget some steps.   Who will be voted off tomorrow?  Very hard to separate the dancing from the choreography....we will see!
